Ceramic UF in Electroplating Wastewater Treatment Achieves Outstanding Results
2018-09-12

At present, the pretreatment of domestic electroplating wastewater mostly adopts two-stage pH adjustment + two-stage coagulation treatment-integrated wastewater coagulation-biochemistry, and the advanced oxidation process of concentrated water enters the biochemical treatment system, with long process flow, large dosage of fertilizer, and sludge volume ( Dangerous waste) causes high processing and operation costs, increased salt content during processing, and increased conductivity, which has a particularly large impact on the biochemical system.

This electroplating park used the MBR (organic film) process to shorten the process, reduce the floor space and provide stable effluent quality. But at the same time, it has brought new pain points to the enterprise. The organic film is easy to break and peel off the skin. The effluent brings out metal ions, the film is severely blocked, and the flux recovery after cleaning is poor, and the service life is short.

Safbon Water used the German ItN nano-coated ceramic flat film to conduct MBR pilot test in the electroplating park. ItN flat ceramic membrane is a ceramic body with a very uniform crystal phase formed by nano-coating material and ceramic membrane support after high-temperature sintering at more than one thousand degrees. Its unique nano-coating process has anti-stick and anti-clogging functions. It has been successfully operated for 12-16 years at the MBR project in the Peterborough WWTP in Germany and other projects in Europe and the Middle East.

The ceramic membrane has high mechanical strength and good chemical stability, and solves the problem of membrane breakage and running mud from the material itself. The water quality before the pilot test film contains various heavy metal ions, the COD is maintained at about 200, the pH is about 11, and the suspended matter is not precipitated. The ceramic membrane was run for 9 minutes, stopped for 1 minute, and backwashed every 30 minutes. By comparing the water quality indicators of the inlet and outlet water for 15 days, the suspended solids could not be detected, and the detection values of COD, copper ions, nickel ions, chromium ions and zinc ions reached the discharge standard of electroplating wastewater. The average flux of the flat ceramic membrane is maintained at 150 LMH, which is more than three times higher than the organic membrane flux. During the test, fouling will also occur during operation. By backwashing, the flux can be easily restored, and with regular drug washing and gas scrubbing, the system can be well maintained for a long time.

Through the success of this pilot test, the application prospect of German ItN ceramic ceramic membrane technology in electroplating wastewater treatment was verified. We are confident to provide perfect solutions for similar projects in China.
